Masters Coach Overview
Vero Beach Rowing, a community-based nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to rowing for youth and adults of all backgrounds, is seeking to expand our coaching roster with a full-time masters rowing program coach position. Reporting to the Director of Rowing, the Masters Coach will lead and grow the VBR Masters rowing programs by playing a key role in coaching, member engagement, and program development, ensuring that every rower has a rewarding and positive experience. The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic leader who can inspire rowers of all experience levels, foster a strong sense of community, and promote technical excellence both on and off the water.
Key Responsibilities
Coaching & Program Leadership
- Lead and schedule program practices, ensuring a structured, safe, and motivating training environment.
- Develop and implement comprehensive training plans aligned with club objectives, athlete goals, and appropriate to each group’s skill and fitness level.
- Provide technical coaching to improve rowing proficiency across all skill levels while fostering a fun and supportive learning environment.
- Direct and oversee contract coaches.
- Offer private lessons to members seeking individualized instruction.
Program Administration & Operations
- Maintain accurate rosters and manage program compliance, including payment tracking and waivers.
- Support onboarding of new members, ensuring smooth integration into the club and programs.
- Oversee Masters personal boat storage assignments and equipment care.
- Manage all aspects of participation in regattas, including entries, logistics, and race-day coordination.
Recruitment and Community Engagement
- Recruit new participants and promote rowing as a lifelong sport.
- Represent Vero Beach Rowing at schools, National Learn to Row Day, and other community events to raise awareness and promote participation.
- Support broader club outreach and community initiatives.
- Serve as a liaison for Masters member relations and social activities, fostering a strong team culture.
- Coordinate and support community outreach programs such as National Learn to Row Day and Row Beyond Diagnosis (a program for individuals affected by cancer).
Qualifications
- Strong understanding of rowing technique, training methodology, and safety protocols.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and club leadership.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Proven coaching experience with Masters or adult athletes.
- USRowing Level 2 Certification or higher preferred.Availability for early morning, evening, and weekend practices and events.
Compensation & Benefits
- $45,000 annual salary and paid time off.

VBR hosts a vibrant youth rowing program with recorded competitive successes at the state, regional, and national levels with program graduates having been recruited to row at premier collegiate programs. In addition, VBR hosts adult Learn to Row sessions and continuing adult recreational and competitive rowing programs. VBR reaches out to our community to attract youth and adult rowers from disadvantaged segments and partners with numerous other community nonprofits to bring rowing opportunities to as many individuals as possible; youth can participate regardless of their financial ability to pay.
Novice & Learn to Row Coach Overview
Vero Beach Rowing, a community-based nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to rowing for youth and adults of all backgrounds, is seeking to expand our coaching roster with a full-time coach position to lead programs that introduce rowing to youth and adults while building a strong foundation of technical skills, teamwork, and enthusiasm for the sport. Reporting to the Director of Rowing, this position plays a key role in coaching, member engagement, and program development, ensuring that every rower has a rewarding and positive experience.
This coach will play a key role in growing participation through effective instruction, strong communication with families, and collaboration with staff and community partners. The ideal candidate is a hands-on coach passionate about athlete development, community outreach, and expanding access to rowing.
Key Responsibilities

- Manage all aspects of participation in regattas, including entries, logistics, and race-day coordination.
Recruitment and Community Engagement
- Recruit new participants and promote rowing as a lifelong sport.
- Represent Vero Beach Rowing at schools, National Learn to Row Day, and other community events to raise awareness and promote participation.
