Youth Rowing

Vero Beach Rowing’s mission is to promote and teach the sport of rowing to the community in order to develop physical fitness, personal character, and an ethic of cooperation through competitive and recreational opportunities. This mission begins with our commitment to our youth programs. Our club provides the opportunity for youth from any school to participate in our programs.

Rowers and their parents recognize the commitment and discipline the sport of rowing instills can transfer easily into other aspects of a rower’s life. Any person, but especially a young one, can discover that if you have the spirit and willingness to take on rowing’s challenges — to deal with both its joys and frustrations, to continue to strive for perfection while knowing that attaining it is unlikely and the effort alone is worthwhile — to such a person, very little in life will seem impossible.

Ultimately, the teamwork involved in rowing fosters a deeply felt camaraderie that is the cornerstone of many rowers’ best memories and lifelong friendships from their time in the sport.

MIDDLE SCHOOL PRACTICE SCHEDULE

Intermediate Team

FALL SEASON STARTS August 17-December 11

Intermediate rowing program is a team program that is open to athletes with moderate experience on the water. This program is meant to be the step between beginner and trying for our Racing Team, and for athletes that are not yet ready to be on the Racing Team.

Open to athletes 6-12 grade with moderate rowing experience!

Description:

The goal of the Intermediate rowing program is to teach the athletes the fundamentals of the sport like discipline, work ethic and how to have fun in a competitive environment! This is a non-racing team, so athletes will take their time to learn the ins and outs of the wonderful sport of rowing.

Athletes will do a combination of rowing, land workouts and video work to get familiar with all aspects of the sport. They will learn how to care for the equipment and the boathouse, as well as get to know their teammates.

Athletes that show a knack or enthusiasm for the sport may be asked to tryout for the Novice racing team if in 8th grade or older.
