The Juniors performed quite well at this year’s OARS Junior Invitational Regatta. For a change, the winds were mild, and it was sunny but not too hot, perfect for fast and fair racing. The format for this regatta is that there are multiple ‘flights’ for each event, with gold/silver/bronze medals awarded based on the 3 fastest times across all flights. They try to ‘seed’ the flights so the novice crews are in the first ‘A’ flight and the fastest boats are in the final ‘C’ or ‘D’ flight. Therefore, a crew can win their ‘flight’ but still not medal. This is always a tough regatta and in 2019 and 2020 we failed to come home with medals.
This year, we took home silver medals in the Women’s Youth 2x and the Men’s Varsity 4+! Most of our crews raced quite well, coming in 1st 2nd or 3rd in their flight.
Now it’s on to the East Districts this weekend in Canal 54!
